The receiver/dryer serves as a temporary storage container for oil and refrigerant, also it filters out small amounts of contamination and moisture from the system.

Moisture is one of the major enemies of an a/c system, form caustic corrosive substances which can cause serious damage to various system components.

Receiver/dryers are only used on systems that contain expansion valves.

Replacing the receiver-drier is essential when servicing the a/c system. You must also have proof of changing the receiver-drier in order to receive a compressor warranty.
